25th Anniversary of NYFA Fellow Jessica Hagedorn’s Dogeaters
Symposium and benefit this week to honor novelist and poet Jessica Hagedorn
In addition to October being Filipino American History Month, this year marks the 25th anniversary of Jessica Hagedorn’s (Fellow ‘91) Filipino-American novel, Dogeaters, finalist for a National Book Award and 2015 Wall Street Journal Book Club selection. Jessica will be participating in a free symposium featuring Walter Mosley, Marlon James, Gina Apostol, Mia Alvar, Ralph B. Peña, Mia Katigbak, Jeffrey Santa Ana, Allan Isaac, and Nerissa Balce. Playwright and fiction writer Han Ong will host and moderate.

Jessica will also be honored at the Kundiman benefit on October 14 with Eva Badowska, Dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at Fordham University. Kundiman, a nonprofit dedicated to Asian American literature, is founded by Poetry Fellows Sarah Gambito (Fellow ‘07) and Joseph O. Legaspi (Fellow ‘01).
