Twitter Chat for Artists to Take on New Digital Life

The New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) launched #ArtistHotline in 2015 as a new entry point for artists to seek advice and inspiration. This monthly day of tweeting fostered an online community of artists and arts administrators, and has been a way to share resources, brainstorm, and support each other. We want to thank the many artists and arts organizations who participated throughout the past three years. NYFA staff has valued the chance to learn from the enterprising, tenacious artists and arts leaders in our online community.

Now, #ArtistHotline is evolving, and this evolution will consist of two new components.

#ArtistHotline on Social Media

First, #ArtistHotline will continue as a social media initiative, but in a new form that allows more flexible access to a greater number of artists. Starting in January 2019, you will be able to:

  • Use the hashtag #ArtistHotline at any time on Twitter to ask questions. NYFA staff will respond with resources and answers within two business days, and, from time to time, invite other organizations into the conversation to provide further insights on the topic.
  • Engage with NYFA staff via @nyfacurrent’s Instagram account. In the first week of each month, look for posts and interactive Instagram Stories with #ArtistHotline content.
  • Read content on our blog inspired by the tweeted conversations that have taken place during #ArtistHotline.

#ArtistHotline and Emerging Technologies

Secondly, #ArtistHotline will also evolve into a new responsive website feature on NYFA.org, and, ultimately, on NYFA Source. This feature, like #ArtistHotline and the NYFA Source Hotline—which is accessible over the phone and by email—will provide opportunities to interact with NYFA staff and will address the needs of the artist and arts community. We’re working to actualize this feature with the help of NYFA’s Product and Technology team, and with the invaluable support of the Emily Hall Tremaine Foundation. Stay tuned for updates!

Inspired by the NYFA Source Hotline, #ArtistHotline is an initiative dedicated to creating an ongoing online conversation around the professional side of artistic practice. Our goal is to help artists discover the resources needed, online and off, to develop sustainable careers.

Have an arts career question? You can contact NYFA staff directly via the NYFA Source Hotline at (800) 232-2789, from Monday – Friday, 3:00 – 5:00 PM EST or email [email protected].

This initiative is supported by the Emily Hall Tremaine Foundation.
