Tackle your to do’s and taxes with the help of #ArtistHotline, our monthly Artist Professional Development Day! Use the hashtag to tweet from 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM EST.

Bring precision and vision to your arts career in 2018 by utilizing the online community that is #ArtistHotline. #ArtistHotline is a professional development Twitter chat that facilitates resource-sharing among peers on the third Wednesday of each month. The goal of #ArtistHotline is to help empower artists by connecting them with needed resources. The schedule for each #ArtistHotline is designed to cover a range of topics through an Open Chat, while also examining select key themes in-depth through a Guest Chat segment and an Arts Administrator Q&A.

Schedule for the Day

• 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM EST: #ArtistHotline starts off with an Open Chat, where NYFA staff and partnering organizations field questions via Twitter and share advice. Use this time to ask for pointers on any topic related to the Business of Art.
• 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM EST: During the “Cross-Sector Collaborations” Guest Chat, we’ll host a virtual panel consisting of dark fantasy writer Ksenia Anske, poet Denice Frohman, and illustrator and Kyle T Webster.
• 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM EST: Elaine Grogan Luttrull, CPA-PFS, will share her expertise during a “Taxes for Artists” Arts Administrator Q&A. Use this time to ask questions about freelance income, upcoming changes in the U.S. tax system, and more.

Arts Administrator Q&A Bio

Elaine Grogan Luttrull, CPA-PFS is the founder of Minerva Financial Arts, a company devoted to building financial literacy in artists and arts organizations through education and coaching. She is an assistant professor at the Columbus College of Art & Design, where she serves as the Department Head for Business & Entrepreneurship. Grogan Luttrull previously served as the Director of Financial Analysis for The Juilliard School. Her presentations have been featured nationally by the DeVos Institute of Arts Management at the University of Maryland, Americans for the Arts, the Arts & Business Council of New York, the College Art Association, Playwrights of New York, the Lark Play Development Center, Theatre Communications Group, the Juilliard School, the New England Conservatory of Music, the Ohio Art League, the Ohio Arts Council, the Greater Columbus Arts Council, and the Foundation Center. Grogan Luttrull is the author of Arts & Numbers (Agate, B2 2013) and a regular contributor to Professional Artist magazine. She is based in Columbus, Ohio, where she serves on the boards of Social Ventures and the Short North Alliance.

Inspired by the NYFA Source Hotline, #ArtistHotline is an initiative dedicated to creating an ongoing online conversation around the professional side of artistic practice. #ArtistHotline occurs on the third Wednesday of each month on Twitter. Our goal is to help artists discover the resources needed, online and off, to develop sustainable careers.
