Apply Now | NYFA’s Emerging Leaders Boot Camp: Professional Development for Arts Administrators
Open to arts administrators from all disciplines within commuting distance to New York City.
New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) is pleased to announce the fourth session of the “Emerging Leaders Boot Camp,” a nine-month free program that provides leadership training for arts administrators.
NYFA is seeking applicants who are committed to the arts with clear long-term leadership goals who are curious and passionate about learning, and willing to step outside of their comfort zone to develop new skills. Administrators of diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
The program will train up to 25 arts administrators in the principles of leadership. As an arts organization, NYFA integrates creativity into the program, with a flexible and adaptive approach, assessing and adjusting to the needs of the cohort over the nine-month program. Since its inception, 75 arts administrators have participated in the program, coming from a diverse range of arts organizations serving a wide variety of disciplines and constituents. Please visit this link for more information on our alumni.
In addition to gaining access to a variety of concepts within leadership, (i.e. adaptive, leading through values, etc.) technical workshops will be provided with a focus on personnel, management, board development, fundraising, and strategic planning. Participants will be given skills that will assist them in their current roles in order to be more effective within their own organization as well as developing training that will help them assume leadership roles in the future.
The Emerging Leaders Boot Camp is led by Felicity Hogan, Director of NYFA Learning, who has managed the program since its inception in 2013, and will include input from and access to NYFA’s own executive leadership and Board of Directors. Programming will include panels and conversations with influencers and role models within the arts and cultural communities, case studies, and artist presentations.
The program structure includes a five-day intensive with a rigorous blend of presentations, formal lectures, individual leadership assessment, and break-out groups. Additionally, the nine-month program includes half-day check-ins, an alumni mixer, and a two-day final session.
In this iteration of the program, NYFA will be providing each participant access to a mentor over a three month period, many of whom will be alumni of the program. Participants will outline specific challenges/goals for mentors to provide individualized guidance. Mentors will work with participants whose organizations and needs are aligned.
