NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellowship – Calling Nonfiction Writers

The NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellowships are awarded to individual, originating artists living and working in the state of New York, with different disciplines being recognized each year. This cycle, submissions for Nonfiction Literature will considered and recipients awarded $7,000. It is not a project grant – it should fund the writer’s vision or voice, regardless of the career stage of his or her artistic development.
Accepted work in the category of Nonfiction Literature includes all varieties and genres of nonfiction prose, such as essays, criticism, journalism, autobiography, biography, memoir, monographs, graphic nonfiction, and experimental forms. Academic papers are not accepted.

- Work Statement – 200 words
- Excerpt Explanation – 400 words
- Cultural Statement – 400 words
- Resume/Narrative Bio – 1 page PDF
- Work Samples – 20 pages, double-spaced, PDF manuscript

- Applicants must be 25 years old or older.
- Applicants must be a current resident of New York State and/or one of the Indian Nations located in New York State for at least the two consecutive years.
- Applicants cannot be enrolled in a degree-seeking program.
- Applicants must not have received a NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellowship in any discipline in the past five years: 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, & 2016, and cannot submit any artwork that has been previously awarded.

The five NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellowship disciplines being considered this year are Crafts/Sculpture, Digital/Electronic Arts, Nonfiction Literature, Printmaking/Drawing/Book Arts, and Poetry.
