NYFA ANNOUNCES INAUGURAL COHORT OF ITS ARTS BUSINESS INCUBATOR (ABI) PROGRAM

Seven NY arts businesses start their #artsbizinc journey

NYFA is pleased to announce the selection of the inaugural cohort of participants in the Arts Business Incubator (ABI) program, made possible through the generous support of the Scherman Foundation’s Katharine S. and Axel G. Rosin Fund.

The following seven businesses were selected from a pool of 119 New York City-based startup arts enterprises:

1. BxArts Factory

2. The Caribbean Film Academy, Inc.

3. Center for Italian Modern Art

4. Float

5. Musical Theater Factory

6. Syncopated City Dance School

7. Young Artisans In Business (YAIB)

Comprised of both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations, this cohort represents a diverse cross-section of New York City’s artistic and cultural communities. Over the next 3 years, participants will undergo rigorous training in the essentials of starting and running an arts-based enterprise. In addition to the group educational component, each enterprise will receive coaching, mentoring, and subsidized professional services to help achieve their respective institutional priorities.

Beyond the nuts and bolts of supporting the growth of these enterprises, ABI will explore the best practices associated with running a startup in the arts. “Entrepreneurship is but one definition of the artist life and owning that way of being is exciting and inspiring”, said NYFA’s Executive Director, Michael Royce. “The participants in this inaugural cohort are trailblazing that path. NYFA’s ABI program is more than providing tools for artists– it’s about helping them to use those tools in a way that brings the community together in creative and meaningful ways.”
