NYFA FELLOW LISA KRON WINS TWO TONY AWARDS
“This house is so much bigger than I thought, […] I didn’t know we had a freaking ballroom?!”
We are so proud to congratulate Lisa Kron
(Fellow in Playwriting/Screenwriting ‘94)
on winning two Tony Awards in yesterday’s ceremony at Radio City Hall in New York.
Lisa won a Best Book Tony Award for Fun Home. It is the first musical she wrote and an adaptation from Alison Bechdel’s graphic memoir of the same name. In her acceptance speech Lisa praised the outstanding season in ‘our house that we live in together [Broadway]’ and that saw lights being turned on in rooms that we didn’t even know existed.
Composer Jeanine Tesori and Lisa also won a Tony Award for Best Score and were the first all-female team to receive that honor.

Lisa Kron received a NYFA Artists’s Fellowship for Playwriting/Screenwriting in 1994. NYFA Artists’ Fellowships are cash awards of $7,000 made to individual originating artists living and working in the state of New York for unrestricted use. Read more about the program here.
