Free professional development for artists is on its way to Long Island!
New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA), in partnership with the New York State Council on the Arts’ State & Local Partnerships program and Huntington Arts Council, is pleased to announce the third year of the NYSCA/NYFA Artist as Entrepreneur Boot Camp. The Boot Camp is part of a series of ongoing professional development programs for the arts communities in New York State.
The NYSCA/NYFA Artist as Entrepreneur Boot Camp is an intensive, multi-day professional development opportunity that delves into the fundamental principles of sustainability in the arts. Featured topics will include strategic planning, finance, law, marketing, and fundraising. Additional material will be drawn from NYFA’s popular textbook The Profitable Artist (Allworth Press, 2011).
The structure of the program is a blend of formal lectures, discussions, and breakout groups. Participants work through a flexible and dynamic “action plan” and other entrepreneurial tools that provide a blueprint for their practice or specific projects.
There is no charge to participate in the NYSCA/NYFA Artist as Entrepreneur Boot Camp Program. Artists interested in attending are required to apply, and participants are selected through a panel review process. Artists of all disciplines and career stages, including students, are encouraged to apply.

NYSCA/NYFA Artist as Entrepreneur Boot Camp Testimonials
After leaving the Boot Camp, I felt more hopeful about my personal artistic practice than I had in a long while. I gained resources and connections I would not have otherwise gained in this compact weekend.
– Pilar Arthur-Snead, Visual artist, 2017 NYSCA/NYFA Artist As Entrepreneur Boot Camp presented by The Flower City Arts Center.
For many artists, we operate in our own bubble and this program is an invaluable opportunity to leave that bubble for a little while, hear about other artists’ experiences, and learn some really pointed information to help us grow our businesses. Sometimes we all need a kick in the pants and this bootcamp not only provides that kick, but gives us the tools to create and execute an action plan.
