Event | Artists as Innovators Exhibition at SUNY Alfred
Featuring work by more than 20 NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellows, traveling exhibition makes its way to Alfred University.
The New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) is commemorating three decades of NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellowships with the landmark traveling exhibition Artists as Innovators: Celebrating Three Decades of New York State Council on the Arts/New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowships. The fellowship program has supported more than 4,000 artists in various fields in the visual arts, literature, and performing arts at critical stages throughout their careers.
The exhibition, which will travel to seven SUNY campuses between Fall 2017 and Spring 2020, will next be on view at Fosdick-Nelson Gallery at Alfred University. The gallery will be showcasing Artists as Innovators over two exhibitions from September to December 2018. The first exhibition will run from September 14 to October 19, 2018, and will be celebrated with a public opening on Friday, September 14, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. This first exhibition will showcase artworks by Ida Applebroog, Dawoud Bey, Sanford Biggers, Tara Donovan, Carroll Dunham, Marilyn Minter, Tony Oursler, Faith Ringgold, Martha Rosler, Dread Scott, Andres Serrano, Carmelita Tropicana, and Fred Wilson.
The second installment will be on show at the gallery from November 2 to December 4, 2018, with the opening reception on Friday, November 2, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Artists on display for the second installment are Elia Alba, Ross Bleckner, Wendell Castle, Chitra Ganesh, The Guerrilla Girls, Barbara Kruger, Christian Marclay, Lori Nix, and Shinique Smith.

Niagara Falls-based artist Patrick Robideau received a New York State Council on the Arts/New York Foundation for the Arts Artist Fellowship in 2017. Hidden Room, an exhibition of his works, participates in a larger program coordinated with NYFA celebrating three decades of NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellowships around the state.
