Description
Responsible for the daily operations of Schafler Gallery and Satellite Galleries. Provides administrative support for the Director of Exhibitions and Assistant Director of Exhibitions with consideration of diversity initiatives where appropriate. Keeps records and cares for the safety and preservation of the permanent collection. Assists with all installations in all Department of Exhibitions Galleries including Pratt Manhattan Gallery.
Examples of Duties
• Manages the daily operations of Schafler Gallery and Satellite Galleries
• Trains and supervises student aides on how to serve as gallery monitors, assist with installation of exhibitions and office tasks, monitor safety of artwork, and anticipate and resolve security and art condition problems with individual artworks for Brooklyn galleries
• Prepares and drafts routine correspondence, answers general email inquiries
• Assists the Director of Exhibitions and Assistant Director with administrative responsibilities including the processing of invoices and purchase orders, posting of social media, and other tasks as needed
• Answers telephone and email inquiries on a regular basis; informs the Director and Assistant Director of any messages or queries requiring their response or immediate attention
• Cares for the permanent collection under the supervision of Assistant Director
• Travel between and work at Brooklyn and Manhattan campus as needed for installations and special projects
• Coordinates receptions and special events and the documentation of events including video recordings. Updates the archive of event recordings
Qualifications
Education:
• BFA or BA required, with some studio art and art history classes preferred
Experience:
• 1-2 years office experience, preferably in an arts institution, gallery or museum.
Required skills:
• General office skills, basic budgeting, Mac computer savvy (software skills), internet research, knowledge of contemporary art, mentoring and supervisory skills.
Other:
• Knowledge of graphic design programs such as Photoshop, and InDesign; interest in supervising/working with students; basic art handling helpful; knowledge of art installation
• Ability to lift 20 lbs.
