Compensation:

Salary $55,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a full-time 5 year grant funded position exempt position.

Description

The Delaware Art Museum seeks an experienced Exhibitions Registrar with working knowledge of collections management software such as The Museum System (TMS). The successful candidate will be responsible for the coordination and implementation of the Museum’s special exhibitions program: temporary borrowed exhibitions and exhibitions organized by the Museum for display or travel to other venue(s), and for related manual and computerized records and images. The position reports to the Chief Registrar and works collaboratively with Curators and Preparators.

 

Major responsibilities include:

·        Maintain collections care and collections records for special exhibitions, as assigned in accordance with professional standards and with the Museum’s Collection Care Policy

·        Review of Facilities Reports related to special exhibitions

·        Review and negotiate exhibition contracts in consultation with Head Registrar and Curators

·        Manage special exhibitions’ loan processing, documentation, checklists, condition reporting, packing/unpacking, shipping and receiving receipts, customs, couriers, negotiation of indemnifications and insurance, handling, conservation issues, communication with lenders and tour partners, and related database management.

·        Manage risk management for special exhibitions, including environmental and lighting standards, authorized handling, inventory, controlled access by public and staff, ongoing preventive conservation, location control, and emergency preparedness and response.

·        Implement professional conservation examination and treatment in consultation with lenders, tour partners, and Curators for special exhibitions.

·        Expand and enhance TMS database with documentation and history of current and past special exhibitions

·        Maintain manual files for special exhibitions

·        Track objects selected for planned special exhibitions through installation and deinstallation

·        Act as courier for domestic and foreign loans of special exhibitions

·        Track movement and location of works in special exhibitions in the Museum

·        Collaborate with Preparators in maintenance of safe and orderly storage for special exhibitions

·        Communicate with Museum staff and collaborating institutions and lenders about special exhibitions

·        Monitor environmental standards and security of special exhibitions in collaboration with Operations Department.

·        Participate in development of special exhibitions budgets and obtain estimates for and monitor expenditures related to special exhibitions

·        Schedule and supervise photography of temporary exhibition installations for the institutional archive, and usage by other Museum departments. Append and resize digital images to the appropriate records in TMS as well as complete archival backups.

 

Requirements:

·        BA degree in Art History, Museum Studies, Arts Administration or closely related field or professional experience equivalent

·        Minimum of 3-5 years' experience in a museum or gallery setting assisting with exhibition planning

·        Mastery of professional standards for museum registration

·        Working knowledge of The Museum System (TMS) or other CMS systems

·        Mastery of professional standards for museum registration with minimum 3 years’ experience in a museum or gallery setting.

·        Accuracy and discretion

·        Attention to detail.

·        Proficient knowledge of computer programs

·        Ability to set and meet deadlines

·        Superior written and interpersonal communication skills

·        Strong organizational skills including effective time management, ability to set and fulfill priorities, and demonstrated ability to work effectively in multi-tasking, fast paced environment.

·        Highly motivated and able to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

·        Ability to lift 35 pounds safely

·        Ability to travel internationally
