Description

The Film and Public Programs Manager is responsible for helping manage and implement year-round film and moving image programming across the Museum’s screens and public programming. This junior administrative role reports to and works closely with Museum of the Moving Image’s Senior Curator of Film to actualize and optimize ongoing film programming and works collaboratively with other departments at the Museum, including Exhibitions, Marketing, Education, and Special Events. The Film and Public Programs Manager has a deep knowledge and understanding of film booking, scheduling, and shipping, as well as the ability to run and administrate the Content Management System (CMS) for the Museum’s website. 

The Film and Public Programs Manager is an essential part of the Museum team, and a primary contact for many of the organization’s external collaborators, including distributors, archivists, and community partners. Strong editorial, writing, and interoffice communication skills are necessary; presence during weekends and after-hours is occasionally required. 

 

 Duties include: 

 

  • Managing the year-round film programming schedule and calendar in conjunction with Senior Curator of Film and with the collaboration of the Director of Events and Associate Director of Special Programs; 
  •  Booking films in multiple formats—including DCP, 16mm, 35mm, and 70mm—and maintaining contacts with film distributors, studios, sales agents, and consortiums; 
  •  Overseeing the invoicing and trafficking—packaging, shipping, mailings, and arrivals—for film prints and DCPs both to and from the Museum, and communicating and coordinating closely with Museum projectionists; 
  •  Updating the Museum’s website, ensuring that all written communications regarding screenings, programs, exhibitions, and events are fully edited, consistent with MoMI house style, and up to date for public view; 
  •  Liaising across departments to ensure seamless execution of programs, including communication of workflows and marketing assets in coordination with the Director of Public Information;  
  •  Working with Senior Curator of Film and other staff to maintain relationships, enhance partnerships, and collaborations that further the Museum’s mission and goals;  
  •  Helping to manage and plan guest appearances, Q&As, and special events;  
  •  Occasionally interfacing with the public or special guests when requested or necessary 


Qualifications: 

  • Significant experience with film booking; 
  • Superior organizational and management skills; 
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and editorial proficiency, including a strong understanding and grasp of English-language grammar; 
  • Experience working in and helping manage a website CMS, preferably WordPress; understanding of computer programming and coding a plus; 
  • Engagement with the contemporary film, TV, and media industries, and an understanding of moving image history; 
  • Ability to successfully collaborate with colleagues and external collaborators; 
  • Ability to set priorities, yet maintain flexibility to respond quickly to changes; 
  • Excellent presentation skills; 
  • B.A. or degree in Film/Media Studies or a related field;  
  • Minimum three years of relevant experience required
