About the Director, Marketing & Communications Role:
Reporting to BRIC’s Chief Revenue Officer, the Director of Marketing & Communications will lead all marketing and communication activities for BRIC, developing strategies for and overseeing execution of BRIC’s efforts to attract audiences and program participants, increase brand awareness, and provide leadership for maintaining and increasing institutional visibility. The Director of Marketing & Communications will across BRIC’s programs in arts, media, performance, and education.
What You’ll Do in the Role:
The Director will be responsible for the following in addition to any other project as assigned by their manager, the Chief Revenue Officer :
Marketing
- Develop and oversee an organization-wide marketing plan, including programmatic marketing plans, institutional marketing plans, and digital strategies, to help attract audiences (for free and ticketed events and for video content), and advance the public/stakeholder awareness and understanding of BRIC and its offerings.
- Guide a team to support advancement of branding strategies, including the rebranding and repositioning of BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn!, New York’s longest-running performing arts festival.
- Provide daily oversight of BRIC marketing efforts, and foster strong communication and collaboration among different work teams, maximizing synergies across teams and programs.
- Provide input on and approve all creative designs and marketing materials and output.
- Develop and manage BRIC’s institutional marketing calendar, managing competing priorities across different programming areas.
- Support the development of strategies for BRIC’s website and digital channels.
- Oversee development of print communications including the annual report, season brochures, programmatic flyers, and electronic communication.
- Collaborate closely with Development around key fundraising and earned revenue opportunities, including membership campaigns and annual appeal.
Communications
- Ensure messaging is clear and consistent across functions and geographies.
- Oversee a team developing public information materials, such as press releases, pitch memos, fact sheets, op-eds, letters to the editor, and other materials used for dissemination of BRIC’s position.
- Build and maintain relationships with writers, editors, and publishers to increase visibility of BRIC’s work and drive impact.
- Oversee the development of marketing materials for the organization, including pitch decks, fact sheets, media kits and one pagers and work with freelancers (designers and copywriters) to fulfill additional promotional needs.
- Collaborate with the broader team to identify opportunities to promote the organization on our social media channels and when appropriate contribute to the social media content calendar.
- Oversee a team to develop a comprehensive crisis communications strategy for implementation around a wide variety of possible crisis scenarios.
- Occasionally secure and guide external partners or agencies, as needed, in securing media opportunities such as interviews, speaking engagements with key publishers, and events.
- On occasion, support the President’s internal and external communications.
Management, Administration and other
- Lead a marketing team, providing direction, goals, career development, and mentoring. Ensure professional development and ongoing learning opportunities are provided for the team.
- Develop, oversee, and manage BRIC-wide marketing budget. Ensure appropriate spending across all BRIC programmatic and institutional priorities. Manage vendor relationships.
- Advise and regularly brief the President on marketing and press issues; collaborate with the senior management team on marketing.
- Oversee and manage the BRIC Board of Directors Marketing Committee. Provide regular reports to BRIC’s Board of Directors and marketing committee on marketing strategies and results.
- Oversee and manage the Board Marketing Committee, holding quarterly strategy sessions with a team of Board members whose backgrounds touch the worlds of marketing & communications.
- Strategically partner with Board members to leverage their expertise in service of BRIC’s overall marketing & communications plan and specific initiatives.
You’ll Bring these Skills and Strengths to the Role:
- Experience: At least 5-7 years of experience in marketing, communications, and/or press relations.
- Mission & Values Alignment: A passion for BRIC’s support of the arts in Brooklyn and a deep commitment to building community, igniting learning and making change through the arts and creativity.
- Strategic Storytelling. An excellent ability to communicate through diverse media and has a strong portfolio of blogs, proposals, newsletters, press releases, bylines, etc. Able to think and act strategically to enable each piece to fit together into the larger picture.
- Detail Oriented. Demonstrates love for writing, and possesses a strong passion for the power of words. Exhibits exemplary grammar, proofreading, editing and communication skills while being attentive to accuracy.
- Communication & Relationship Building: An emotionally intelligent, values- and results-driven leader who can inspire staff and collaborate across departments and at all levels of the organization, and provide feedback and coaching to support the achievement of goals. Highly skilled communicator and relationship builder, both individually and in large audiences or public communications.
- Commitment to Equity & Inclusion: Brings experience operationalizing equity within the fundraising function and setting an equity and justice rooted strategy for revenue generation and team management.

- Compensation: The annual salary range for this position is $85K - $110K.
- Status and location: This is a full-time, exempt role based in our Brooklyn office.
