Make a Difference as a Compassionate Dementia Care Companion


Are you passionate about improving the lives of others? We are seeking a caring, dedicated, and experienced Companion Caregiver to join our team! If you specialize in Dementia and Alzheimer’s care and have a genuine heart for service, we want to hear from you.


Position Overview:

As a Companion Caregiver, you’ll provide essential support and meaningful companionship to clients living with Dementia or Alzheimer’s. By fostering a safe and supportive home environment, you’ll play a pivotal role in enhancing their quality of life and well-being.


Key Responsibilities:

Engage clients in stimulating and meaningful activities to promote emotional and cognitive well-being.

Prepare and serve nutritious meals tailored to individual dietary needs.

Perform light housekeeping to maintain a safe and clean-living space.

Assist with mobility and provide transportation to medical appointments, errands, or social outings.

Monitor and document health changes, sharing updates with the care team.

Follow personalized care plans to address the unique needs of each client.


Qualifications:

Proven caregiving experience, particularly with Dementia and Alzheimer’s clients.

Current COVID-19 vaccination (required).

Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (preferred but not required if travel isn’t necessary).

Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends.

Exceptional patience, compassion, and strong interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing companionship to older adults and people with chronic health conditions in their homes (e.g., discussing current events, creating artwork, reviewing photo albums).
  • Providing compassionate, patient hands-on personal care support for ADLs, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and transfers.
  • Planning activities outside the home and accompanying clients to keep them engaged with the world (e.g., trips to museums, concerts, plays, or the park).
  • Escorting clients to doctors’ appointments.
  • Running errands for clients (e.g., grocery shopping, sundries).
  • Reminding clients to take their medications.
  • Doing light exercise with clients (e.g., helping with stretching routine).
  • Assisting clients in preparing meals.
  • Performing light housekeeping, such as dusting, tidying, and laundry.


Qualifications:

We welcome candidates with diverse backgrounds including the creative arts and healthcare fields. Our employment is selective. Strong candidates possess:

  • A valid HHA certificate in New York State
  • A passion for caring for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. Prior experience working with this population is valued, but not required.
  • An accredited high school diploma, though we prefer candidates with college degrees or those currently attending colleges or graduate schools.
  • Deep empathy and patience.
  • Flexibility, reliability, and responsiveness.
  • Creativity and a positive, open-hearted approach.
  • Strong composure under pressure.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to build trust-based relationships with clients and their families.

Job Type: Part-time


Salary: $18.50 - $23 per hour


Schedule:

  • 12 hour shift
  • 4 hour shift
  • 8 hour shift
  • Day shift


Education:

  • High school or equivalent (Required)


Experience:

  • Home care: 2 years (Required)
  • Dementia care: 2 years (Preferred)
  • Alzheimer's care: 2 years (Preferred )


License/Certification:

  • Proof of Covid Vaccination (Required)


Work Location: In person
