Description

Interim Assistant Director of Second Act and Instrumental Music

(Full-Time)

Start Date: July 1, 2025

Overview

The School seeks an energetic, creative, and detail-oriented Assistant Director for Second Act and Instrumental Music, the K-6 after-school program. Second Act is a dynamic auxiliary program that offers a variety of classes, including STEM, fine arts, theater, athletics, a robust drop-in Choice Time program, and individual music lessons.

The Assistant Director plays a key role in daily operations, stepping in as Director of Second Act and Instrumental Music when necessary to ensure smooth program management. This position blends program administration and hands-on teaching, fostering strong connections with students and families as they return year after year. Additionally, the Assistant Director supports the development and administration of Second Act Summer, a one-week summer program for rising K-2 students.

For the 2025-2026 school year, the School’s K-12 Instrumental Music program will be integrated into Second Act for the first time. We seek a candidate with auxiliary program management experience to help facilitate this transition for students, teachers, and families. The Assistant Director will work closely with the Program Director, Facilities team, teachers, and families to manage scheduling, communication, and lesson coordination. This role requires strong customer service, data management skills, and ideally, experience in music education.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Second Act Team to plan and implement clear, engaged supervision and care of children.
  • Develop and oversee the Instrumental Music lesson schedule for over 100 students and 30 teachers per week, working with the director, parents, and other stakeholders.
  • Manage the dismissal process and assist with educating staff and families on the use of the dismissal app.
  • Oversee smooth music lesson transitions throughout the afternoon.
  • Assist with program setup and cleanup duties.
  • Coordinate and manage substitute teachers for instrumental music and adjust lesson schedules as needed.
  • Work with the Facilities team to reserve and manage lesson spaces.
  • Supervise and engage with students during transitions and off-site activities.
  • Plan and implement tri-annual Instrumental Music performance weeks, coordinating with teachers, Facilities, Second Act staff, and families.
  • Support the development of programming for drop-in students.
  • Anticipate and communicate daily program needs.
  • Lead program operations in the Director’s absence.
  • Handle administrative tasks, including billing, enrollment, schedules, and class lists.
  • Participate in professional development and school-wide meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Experience in auxiliary program management and data entry
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite
  • Adaptability and ease in learning new technologies
  • Reliable, punctual, and professional
  • Passion for working with children and school life

  • At least five years of relevant experience, including working in a team setting

Preferred:
