Head Art Handler/Preparator

Andrew Edlin Gallery is seeking head art handler/preparator to join our team. Hours Tuesday-Saturday, 10am-6pm, extra hours for openings. Applicant to work out of our Bowery location and participate in numerous art fairs throughout the year, including travel to Miami. Prior museum/gallery experience required (4-5 years minimum).

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Handle, pack, install and deinstall artwork in various venues (gallery, art fairs, artist studios, client homes, etc.)
• Assist with artwork intake and condition reporting
• Prepare artwork for shipping
• Perform general gallery maintenance including patching and painting walls, adjusting lighting, and maintaining a safe and well-organized storage & work space
• Assist with registrarial tasks including inventory management and data entry
• Ordering of packing materials
• Coordinate with framing company
• Scheduling of additional freelance art handlers
• Assist art photographer with staging 

Requirements:

• 4-5 years of experience in art handling/preparation logistics in a museum or gallery setting
• Working knowledge of packing materials & methods
• Basic carpentry skills and facility with power tools
• Experience in installation and hanging of artworks
• Familiarity with modern & contemporary art and various media and materials
• Framing skills (mounting, hinging, etc., not from scratch)
• Knowledge of and experience with proper handling of various fragile materials
• Ability to lift and hold 50-70 lbs
• Clean driver’s license and willingness to drive a 10-ft box truck
• Strong organizational skills
