About Us:

GOCA by Garde is a new gallery located in Chelsea, New York, dedicated to showcasing Japanese and Asian contemporary art. With a deep commitment to cross-cultural dialogue and innovative programming, we are looking to expand our international presence and strengthen relationships within the Japanese and broader Asian art markets.

Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and driven Sales Director to lead and grow our sales strategy. This role requires a deep understanding of Japanese and Asian art, an established network of collectors, curators, and institutions, and the ability to manage high-level client relationships with professionalism and cultural sensitivity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement sales strategies to achieve gallery sales targets.​
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients, artists, and collectors.
  • Manage and mentor a team of sales associates.​
  • Organize and oversee gallery events, exhibitions, and art fairs.​
  • Negotiate sales agreements and contracts with clients.​
  • Coordinate with marketing teams to promote gallery events and exhibitions.
  • Analyze sales data and prepare reports for senior management.
  • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through excellent service.​
  • Stay updated on market trends and competitor activities.​
  • Collaborate with artists to understand and promote their work.​
  • Manage the gallery's inventory and ensure proper documentation.​
  • Handle client inquiries and provide expert advice on art purchases.​
  • Develop and maintain a strong network within the art community.
  • Oversee the installation and presentation of artworks in the gallery.​
  • Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Represent the gallery at industry events and networking functions.​
  • Work with finance teams to manage budgets and financial planning.​
  • Implement and monitor sales performance metrics.​
  • Develop and execute marketing and promotional campaigns.​
  • Provide training and development opportunities for sales staff.​

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Art, Art History, Business, or a related field.​
  • Fluency in Japanese or any Asian language (speaking, reading, and writing).​
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in art sales or a related field.​
  • Proven track record of achieving sales targets and driving revenue growth.
  • Strong knowledge of the art market and current trends.​
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.​
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with clients and artists.​
  • Strong negotiation and closing skills.​
  • Experience in organizing and managing events and exhibitions.​
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.​
  • Strong leadership and management skills.​
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM software.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.​
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.​
  • Passion for art and a deep understanding of different art forms.​
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required.​
  • Strong business acumen and strategic thinking.
  • Ability to analyze sales data and prepare reports.​
  • Experience in marketing and promotional activities.
  • Knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements in the art industry.​
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Art History, Asian Studies, or a related field.
  • Extensive knowledge of Japanese and Asian art history.​
  • Experience working with international clients and artists.​
  • Familiarity with contemporary Asian art trends and markets.
