The Senior Curator of Film is responsible for conceiving, planning, developing, managing, and implementing year-round film and moving image programming in the Museum’s Redstone Theater, Bartos Screening Room, and special programming as required. The Senior Curator of Film works closely with department leaders in exhibitions, development, marketing and publicity, editorial, A/V presentation, membership, and visitor experience to actualize and optimize ongoing film programming.
The Senior Curator of Film plays an essential role in cultivating and maintaining industry relations, serving as the primary presenter and interlocutor for film screenings and events, as well as the primary host for filmmaker and industry events. Presence during weekends and after-hours is frequently required.
Duties include:
● Conceiving, developing, and overseeing the year-round film programming schedule;
● Contributing to the Museum's long-term sustainability by meeting or exceeding annual revenue goals for attendance and special events;
● Planning the departmental budget and tracking expenditures and reporting;
● Drafting copy for all programming and working closely with the Editorial Director as well as communications and PR on external messaging, including assets, trailers, and publicity materials;
● Liaising across departments to ensure seamless execution of programs, including communication of workflows, marketing assets, and ROS;
● Pursuing partnerships and collaborations that further the Museum’s mission and goals;
● Continuously working to expand, diversify, variegate, and evolve programming to serve a changing cinematic landscape as well as the Museum’s wide-ranging audience, while deepening understanding of the practice and history of the moving image;
● Planning for guest appearances, Q&As, and special events and representing the Museum in public-facing presentations;
● Collaborating with colleagues across departments to develop special programming geared toward revenue-generation, board cultivation, and institutional giving;
● Working with colleagues to oversee booking, invoicing, and print trafficking, as well as negotiating fees with external sales agents, distributors, artists, and other parties;
● Functioning as the primary contact for representatives of outside arts organizations, academic institutions, archives, and distributors regarding potential film-related collaborations, presentations, artist support, and inter-institutional relationship cultivation;
● Directing and managing collaborations with guest curators as well as programming contributed by staff as appropriate;
● Collaborating with Development colleagues on grant applications to support programmatic vision;
● Collaborating on program development across departments as required;
● Tracking attendance and other available data to remain adaptive and responsive to audience trends, as well as proactive in terms of inter-departmental strategies for improving the success of programs.
