Applications are open for the "Art of Engraving" 2025/2026 Scholarship.
This hands-on course, underwritten by the Gilroy and Lillian P. Roberts Foundation in honor of Gilroy Roberts, ninth Chief Engraver of the United States Mint, teaches artists how medals and coins are traditionally created. Through instruction, students explore the ancient art of hand die-engraving together with more modern processes currently used to create coins and medals.
Six successful candidates receive a scholarship to attend this course as part of the ANA’s 2025 Summer Seminar. The scholarship includes tuition, on-campus lodging and meals for one week, as well as (up to $750) reimbursement for transportation costs.
Students who successfully complete the first year (2025), will be invited back for the second year (2026) to continue their study of this fascinating art form.
Year One: June 28-July 3, 2025
Year Two: June TBD, 2026
Visual artists of all disciplines are encouraged to apply for this course in medallic engraving. No prior experience in engraving required.
